Here is a rare antiques Schuco straw stuffed or filled mohair Yes / No Cat Doll, dressed in a red felt jacket with a black button,red boots and hat, and black felt pants. The doll has no identification marks or tags. I would date it c. 1920s. It is 9 1/2" - 9 3/4" high. The legs and arms move via metal disc and probably rods or string (a full disk can be seen on the detached arm). When you turn the cat's tail to the left and right, the head moves left and right, signaling "no ; when you move the tail up and down, the head moves up and down, signaling "yes" . The eyes are jeweled, and the head stitching forms a "Y" from the ear and the hat to the nose and then straight down the chin.
Condition: As you can see in my photos, there are several conditon problems. The doll's left arm has come off. There is a lot of wear on the mohair head, hands and tail. One or two buttons appear to be missing from the jacket. There are several holes, mostly pin size, but some larger. The largest holes are in the toe of the right boot, with several other larger holes in the detached arm.
The pants and hat seem to be in pretty good condition. The stitching is intact throughout the doll. The black and red colors in the cat's outfit are bright--the colors show little or no fading. The lady I got the doll from said that she found it in her grandfather's attic when she interited his house after his death.
This is a rare find in need of a good restoration. Please request more photos as needed.
